Community/Service Population:

25,001 - 50,000 / 10,001 - 25,000

Community Information:

The community of the Northern Mariana islands is a diverse and close knit community in the western pacific and northern Micronesia.  the indigenous population is Chamorro who along with their own unique culture and rich heritage are a unique minority to the United States population.  Additionally, the population is a mix of U.S., Asian, and other pacific islanders and you would be pressed to find a place with the unique cultural make-up of the Mariana islands.  The hospital services the whole of the territory with 2 centers each on the outer islands that have significant populations.  The community healthcare needs mirror those of any U.S. rural setting with a high occurrence of NCD's and singular specialists who do their best with limited resources.  The culture is one of tremendous respect and gratitude to medical care providers and due to the small rural setting, you will always encounter people in the islands who you work with and treat.  No matter the situation, everyone can find a way to see the bright side of life given the bountiful beauty surrounding you all the time from the natural setting and the multi-cultural interactions which add to this beauty.

There is low crime and although there are typical problems with vice as all communities, it is a safe environment to raise your children or care for you elder relatives.  There are typhoons occasionally which can cause significant damage and cause closures of work and school.  Inventory and options for consumer goods may be limited but produce, fruit, and seafood is always fresh and affordable and very easy to find.  As with many island cultures, you will never go hungry and the hospitality to make you feel welcomed is not exaggerated.  You can access all the amenities of any other U.S. state or territory albeit options may be limited or simply different from what you are used to.  Anyone who appreciates learning new languages, traditions, arts and crafts, outdoor activities, and history will receive all of these and more in abundance for no fee in their time living in the Marianas.
