Community Information:
A bit about our community: Columbus is a growing small city of 25,000+, with a strong agriculture, agribusiness, and manufacturing presence. Columbus has three strong school systems, public, parochial, and rural, serving students in grades K-12. We are fortunate to be one of the three campus sites of Central Community College which offers a variety of degree and certificate options in 14 career and technical programs. It also has academic transfer courses in 25 areas for students who plan to attend CCC for two years before transferring to a four-year college to complete a bachelor's degree.
Our community is excited about 3 large construction projects currently well underway to completion that will bring great new resources to the Columbus area:
- A sports complex/fieldhouse will integrate fitness, wellness, rehabilitation services and child care — all under one roof. Columbus Community Hospital, an acute care hospital located 3 blocks from our Columbus clinic, is the lead resource behind this state-of-the-art facility. When finished, it will incorporate:
- Tennis courts.
- A football field.
- A soccer field.
- Volleyball courts.
- Basketball courts.
- A suspended track for walking and running.
- Both indoor and outdoor areas for competitive sports and fitness and /recreation areas.
- Space for some of CCH’s physical and rehabilitation services.
- Columbus Community Building. The Community Building Project consists of the construction of a three-story building housing the Public Library, Columbus Area Arts Council, Columbus Area Children’s Museum, and City Hall.
- First floor contains a main front entry point with access to the library, children’s museum, and water utility office.
- Second floor has the extensions of the library and children’s museum and art gallery space.
- Third floor will consist of the community room, council chambers, and city hall.
- The site includes drop off windows to pay city hall bills, library book return, and a privately owned and operated coffee shop. In addition, the project includes an adjacent parking lot and playground area.
The building is scheduled for occupancy in spring 2023
- The Kramer Education Center. This Center will meet the Board of Education goal to champion more high-quality education opportunities for every child from birth to age 5. The center will include:
- Community based services, including immunizations, and health/dental screenings.
- Kindergarten Plus, an additional educational opportunity for children who are not ready for Kindergarten.
- Pre-School with half- and full-day opportunities.
- Early Program Opportunities for children up to 3 years of age.
- Childcare, including infant care, before- and after-school care
- Workforce Development opportunities through dual credit for CHS students through partnerships with higher education partners.
As you can see, in addition to providing a great place to work, GNCHC offers a great community to live in. We look forward to hearing from you!
