Recruiting for Retention Part Four: Retaining for the Lifecycle of the Employee

Successfully retaining health care professionals through the lifecycle of their employment is critical to the stability of medical services in rural and underserved communities. Retention is so important, it’s why we always use the language “Recruiting FOR Retention” when talking about the beginning part of retention, recruiting the right professional for the position.

Within your retention efforts, it’s important to incorporate workforce strategies that align with your business goals. In order to meet those goals – whatever they are – retention efforts should be part of the focus.

In Part Four, we outline many practical strategies you can take toward successful retention efforts. Two key concepts that will aid you the most in your retention efforts? Flexibility and re-recruiting. We’ll explain how to incorporate both within your retention strategies.

Topics in Part Four include:

  • Onboarding
  • Employee engagement surveys
  • Stay interviews
  • Succession planning
  • Staffing needs
  • Work/life balance
  • Compensation
  • Total compensation statements
  • Unique benefits

In addition to the above topics, we also talk about:

  • Key retention principles
  • How to create a culture that celebrates differences and allows people to reach their potential
  • Free and low-cost tools to help with your retention efforts
  • Rural-focused retention strategies
  • What’s attractive when it comes to retention, by generation

Check out Part Four to learn more about retention basics and how to plan strategically for the best retention possible.

In each of the Recruiting for Retention guides, we also include supplemental resources to help make your R4R process as easy as possible. The additional resources that accompany Part Four are:

•    Employee Engagement Questions
•    Career Ladders
•    Succession Planning

These additional resources can be found in the same folder on your 3RNET Dashboard.

Here's where to find Part Four and accompanying resources:

The content of this guide is based on content from 3RNET’s longtime-published Recruiting for Retention Manual.
