Kamiah is the ancestral home of the Nez Perce people. It is here that Lewis & Clark spent the spring of 1806 with the NiMiiPuu while waiting for the snow to melt in the Bitterroot Mountains. Kamiah is predominantly a lumber community, and the mild climate and rich soil make it an ideal place for agricultural pursuits. Kamiah is a hub for travelers heading in all directions, whether you are crossing the stunning Lolo Pass to Montana, heading downriver to Orofino and Lewiston, or seeing all of the sights of the beautiful Camas Prairie on your way to the state’s capital in Boise. Kamiah Joint School District #304 is made up of Kamiah Elementary School, Kamiah Middle School, and Kamiah High School.  The school district partners with students, parents and community members to offer solid academic programs, dual-credit courses, technology training, seasonal athletics, student service and leadership organizations, and other enriching classes, clubs, and programs, to help each student reach their full potential.

 

Kamiah’s “Main Street” is a fun and picturesque place to spend time eating, shopping, and visiting with your neighbors. Its “Old West” charm, combined with modern amenities, offers something for almost everyone!
