square miles in northeastern Siskiyou County, California. It's a high desert
plateau, nestled between the majestic Mt. Shasta to the south and Oregon’s vast
Klamath Basin to the north, with an elevation of 4,250 feet. The valley is
crisscrossed by Highway 97 and is home to the City of Dorris and the
communities of Macdoel, Mt. Hebron & Tennant, California.
The City of Dorris boasts a 200-foot-tall flagpole with a 30 x
60-foot American flag flying proudly since 1996. A 1.75-mile walking path
on the Museum property offers a chance to stretch your legs with spectacular
views of the valley and Mt. Shasta.
Butte Valley offers a rural setting and small-town atmosphere. The
local economy is primarily agriculture/ranching, with solid retail and service
offerings. Large commercial strawberry plant production is prevalent in the
area, providing both annual and seasonal work. A moulding mill offers
other employment opportunities.

12 schools.

Home of America’s
Tallest Flagpole West of the Mississippi
Butte Valley teems
with American and community pride. On June 2, 1996, this small but
energetic community raised a 30 x 60 ft American flag to fly atop a 200 ft
flagpole. Located next to Dorris City Hall, America’s tallest flagpole West of
the Mississippi garners immense interest from travelers and residents alike. A
community flag-raising and barbecue is held annually on the Fourth of July
to honor all Veterans and active military who fight to preserve the freedom we
all enjoy.
