Cottonwood, Idaho is located on the beautiful Camas Prairie. It’s not a big town, with only about 900 residents, but is has a big heart. This is a bustling farming community and has an inviting main street area that includes dining options, a brewery, and some cute shops. Cottonwood is also home to one of the country’s most unique travel destinations, “Dog Bark Park Inn”! Cottonwood sits just above the Salmon River and it is a quick jaunt to get to to world class fishing, white water rafting, jet boat tours, and gorgeous scenery. In the winter the Cottonwood Butte, with a vertical drop of 845 feet, offers downhill skiing and snowboarding, with 4 major groomed runs and several powder-filled trails among the trees. There is also a “bunny slope” for beginners and you will always find some friendly faces warming up in the café. Ski and snowboard rentals are available. If you desire more challenging slopes, Cottonwood is less than 2 hours away from beautiful McCall, ID where Brundage Mountain and Tamarack Resort will give you what you’re looking for! Even if you don’t like to ski, McCall is worth the short trip and a great place to spend a day or a weekend!
For a few more creature comfort options, the city of Grangeville, the largest town in Idaho County, is about 15 minutes away. We like to say “there’s a little town in the heart of Idaho where the spirit of the old West is alive and well”… and it is found right here! You’ll find even more dining options, a movie theater, drive-in, bowling alley, shopping, and an abundance of outdoor adventure opportunities. Sitting at about 3,400 ft. elevation in what is known as the “Idaho Rockies”, you will have some incredible views of the nearby Gospel Hump Wilderness, Nez Perce National Forest, and the beautiful Camas Prairie. No matter which way you look there is a scenic feast for your eyes, and some peace for your soul that the beauty of this part of Idaho provides.
